Romania to benefit from EUR 5.8 bn financing lines for infrastructure projects

Ministry of European Funds (MFE) opened on Monday, funding appeals for development projects of road infrastructure, rail and underground with a total budget of EUR 5.8 billion of the total allocation of Operational Programme Large Infrastructure (POIM) 2014-2020, a press release informs.

Applications for all the calls opened on May 30, will be submitted between June 1, 2016 –  December 31, 2018. Both old projects (not finalized by the end of 2015) and new ones in infrastructure, prioritized to finance according to sectoral documents strategic planning documents, can receive funding, MFE notes.

The projects financed in railway infrastructure, says MFE, aim completion of the railway corridor Rhine-Danube (modernization of railway line between the Hungarian border and Constanta), providing increased mobility on the TEN-T core rail network, as well as modernizing, streamlining and competitiveness of rail transport. The available budget is EUR 1.85 billion, Company CFR SA National Railway, Ministry of Transport and other relevant categories of beneficiaries being the eligible applicants.

POIM has an allocation of about EUR 12 billion for transport, environment and energy sectors.
