Romanian-born Calin Rovinescu, Air Canada president, named the CEO of the year by Globe and Mail

Air Canada President and chief executive officer, Romanian-born Călin Rovinescu, was named CEO of the Year The Globe and Mail for the second time, paginiromanesti.ca reports. Rovinescu was also named Canada’s Outstanding CEO of the Year for 2016.

Călin Rovinescu has been Air Canada President and CEO since April 2009.

He was born in Bucharest in 1955 and he relocated with his family to Montreal when he was just five.

The Air Canada CEO revealed in a interview to the Romanian media that his family left for Canada just with two suitcases and 200 dollars in their wallet, with no member of the family speaking English or French.

In  March 2018, Rovinescu officially announced that the company he runs is expanding its routes as of this summer, adding Bucharest to the list of cities to which it will provide direct round flights.
