Romanian companies sell online on their own, more than other companies in the EU

16 percent of all enterprises located in the EU and employing at least 10 people received orders via a website or apps (web sales) in 2016, Eurostat reveals. At the same time, more than 8 in 10 enterprises with web sales (85 percent) sold through their own website or app.

Among the EU Member States, the highest shares of enterprises with web sales that used their own website or apps were reported in the Czech Republic (98 percent), Slovakia and Finland (both 97 percent), Croatia (96 percent), Latvia (95 percent), Spain and Romania (both 94 percent).

The lowest shares were observed in Slovenia (64 percent), Germany and Luxembourg (both 75 percent).

According to Eurostat, almost 4 in 10 enterprises (39 percent) sold via an e-commerce marketplace. Regarding the number of enterprises that sold their goods or services through an e-commerce marketplace, the highest shares were recorded in Italy (54 percent) and Germany (52 percent), followed by Austria and Poland (both 47 percent).

In Romania, only 23 percent of enterprises with web sales used e-commerce marketplaces, below the EU average, but better than in the Czech Republic, Croatia and Finland, where 14 percent of the internet sales companies used an electronic market.

Web sales include both sales to individual consumers and to other enterprises.

I started my way in life with the intention to pursue a teaching career. But, after graduating from the Faculty of Letters – the University of Bucharest in 2004, my first job as a reporter at one of the leading newspapers in Romania changed my perspective. I have specialized in communication and communication campaigns, following the Master's courses at the Faculty of Journalism and Communication Studies (FJSC), attending a BBC Communications scholarship.
I’ve represented several important publications in Romania as business journalist, being accredited in the finance and banking field. In 2015, I had the opportunity to interview the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Mission Chief for Romania, Andrea Schaechter. As business journalist, I also had the opportunity to interview ministers for Economics and Commercial
Affairs offices within different embassies in Romania or officials of large companies investing on the domestic market.
After almost 15 years of journalism, I still want to explore new ways, to inform and stay updated. That’s why The Romania Journal project fits me so well.
Today I describe myself as a passionate about the history of world culture, having a PhD in Hebrew Culture and Civilization, after a scholarship at the University of Haifa International School, as a language addict, an environmental activist, pet lover and traveler.
