Romanian durable goods market climbed to EUR 2.55 bn last year

Durable goods market reached last year EUR 2.55 billion in Romania, up by 9.2 percent compared to the previous year, GFK Temax study reveals. On the other hand, the IT market has recorded the most significant decline of 15.1 percent and reached EUR 419 million.

“Web cameras and mouses were the only IT products have posted positive developments. Tablets have declined the most, followed by desktop systems and laptops,” the document reads.

Significant increases of over 20 percent were recorded by electronics, which generated sales of EUR 463 million, major appliances (EUR 577 million) and small appliances (EUR 178 million).

“2016 has ended with a double-digit growth, all the categories being on positive trend. Most categories have suffered price erosion in 2016, although the consumer’s interest for products with higher specifications increased,” the release also notes.

For small appliances, the Black Friday campaign generated higher sales for all product categories, with significant impact for vacuum cleaners and hot drinks machines.

Not least, the telecom market grew by 12 percent to EUR 824 million last year, registering a significant growth on phones with large screens segment.
