Minister Fifor, in talks with the companies in U.S. defence industry

The Minister of National Defence Mihai Fifor had meetings with the representatives of Raytheon, Lockeed Martin and Bell Helicopters during the working visit he is paying to Washington over September 17th to 22nd, a press release informs.

The delegation includes General Nicolae Ciuca, the chief of General Staff, Florin-Lazar Vladica, state secretary for armament, chiefs of central structures of the ministry.

”During the talks, it was reiterated Romania’s commitment to allocate 2 percent of GDP for defense in 2017 and to maintain this threshold for the next decade, which will allow the launch of the necessary endowment programs for the modernization of the Romanian Armed Forces.

Minister Fifor highlighted the importance of transferring technology and know-how to the national defense industry in the interests of regional and international security. He also appreciated the good results of his meetings, both in the country and during his visit to Washington, inviting the companies in the field to invest in Romania,” the release also reads.

This comes after Romanian PM Mihai Tudose met at the beginning of August the representatives of U.S. company Bell Helicopter, Defense Minister at the time Adrian Tutuianu signing a letter of intention by which the Romanian government announces the United States on its availability in purchasing attack helicopters.

Later, Bell Helicopter officials said the document is part of the Foreign Military Sale (FMS) process, and the negotiations are taking place between the representatives of the two governments.
