Romanians spoke almost 36 billion minutes on the mobile phone in the first semester of 2016, up by 4 percent compared to the same period last year, reveal statistics released by the National Authority for Management and Regulation in Communications (ANCOM) on Tuesday.
However, the same report says that the number of active mobile phone users in Romania is the same as in the first half of 2015, namely 22.6 million.
The Romanian user is speaking four hours and 21 minutes on the mobile phone on the average per month, 8 minutes more than the average reported in the first semester of last year.
Voice services are mostly used by the physical persons who own a subscription. They report a monthly average traffic of 5 hours and 49 minutes, followed by the legal persons owning a subscription (4 hours and 12 minutes). The pre paid card owners are speaking on the mobile phone 3 hours and 26 minutes on a monthly basis.
The average duration of a mobile phone call is up by two minutes and 40 seconds, as recorded in the first half of 2016.
On the other hand, the number of SMS is on decline for the first time in Romania. Over 9.5 billion SMSs have been sent in the first semester of this year, almost 6 % less than the same period in 2015. Almost 80% of them have been sent within the same mobile network. Therefore, in the first half of 2016, a user has sent on the average 69 SMS messages per month.
According to the ANCOM report, the number of the active mobile users in Romania comes to a standstill on June 30, 2016, just like last year- 22.6 million users. The users with subscriptions increased up to 11.1 million, 9 % annually, while the number of the prepaid cards decreased, mounting to 11.5 million.
“The penetration rate of the mobile services reported to 100 inhabitants reached 114.3% in mid-2016,” ANCOM informs.
Yet, even if the number of users came to a stand, the total traffic made by the users climbed by 4% in the first semester of 2016 compared to last year, up to almost 36 billion minutes.
Related to the roaming mobile services, ANCOM reports that the voice traffic has been seeing a consistent rise of 37.5% during the first 6 months of 2016, compared to the same period last year, climbing to almost 685 million minutes, with 222 million sent calls and 463 million received calls.
