According to “Software and IT Services in Romania” study commissioned by Employers’ Association of the Software and Services Industry (ANIS) and conducted by PAC, the turnover of the software and IT services sector increased by 11.3 percent in 2016 compared to 2015 and will exceed the EUR 4 billion threshold in 2017.
The sector’s turnover of EUR 3.6 billion in 2016 is primarily due to exports of software and services, whose value increased by 18.7 percent compared to 2015. At the same time, the value of the domestic market is decreasing by 5.7 percent compared to 2015, as the previous edition anticipated an increase of 4.6 percent.
The average annual growth forecast for the next 3 years remains at around 15 percent, still in line with the estimate released in the 2016 edition of the study.
Exports of software and IT services totaled EUR 2.6 billion in 2016, almost 19 percent more than in 2015, accounting for 74 percent of the sector’s turnover. Forecasts show that the share of exports in the sector’s overall turnover is increasing and will reach 79 percent in 2020 under current market conditions.
As regards the domestic market, which accounts for about 26 percent of the total revenue of the sector, has dropped unexpectedly compared to the previous year, reaching only EUR 935 million.
The survey on the internal market shows a shy evolution for the next period too, showing a low-tech consumption compared to the estimated needs, especially in the public sector, but also in the private sector.
