The plans for the long awaited highway linking Pitesti to Sibiu cities begin to take shape. The awarding documents related to Sections 1 and 5 of the Pitesti – Sibiu motorway will be validated by the National Agency for Public Procurement (ANAP) and then sent to the Electronic System of Public Procurement (SEAP), the Romanian National Company of Road Infrastructure Management (CNAIR) informs.

They have a total value of approximately EUR 560 million, no VAT. For Section 1 with a value of almost EUR 165 million, no VAT, the design will take 12 months and the works execution, 36 months.

For Section 5, the value is approximately EUR 395 million, no VAT, the design time is 12 months and the execution period is 48 months. The deadline for submitting bids for both sections is about 3 months.

The 123-km highway was included in the first version of the Transport Master Plan as an expressway, being later included, at the end of public debates, as a highway, part of Pan-European transport corridor IV.

The project will have a length of almost 123 kilometres and its estimated investment value reaches EUR 2 billion, including European funds.

Pitesti – Sibiu motorway means: section 1 Sibiu-Boita, section 2 Boita-Racovita, section 3 Racovita-Valeni, section 4 Valeni-Curtea de Arges, section 5 Curtea de Arges-Pitesti, and section 6 – the rehabilitation of a 14-km sector of national road, and the construction of a new 2.5-km road.

The European Commissioner for Regional Policy, Corina Cretu, announced recently that Romania recorded losses of EUR 1 billion in the transportation field, money that could have been spent in the 2007-2013 financial period.
