SkyCeptor missiles could be manufactured in Romania

Electromecanica Ploieşti, a subsidiary of Romarm National Company, signed a letter of intent with Raytheon Missiles&Defense to start collaboration for the production of SkyCeptor interceptor missiles in Romania, informs the Ministry of Economy, Entrepreneurship and Tourism (MEAT). The signing ceremony took place at the MEAT headquarters in the presence of Minister Ştefan-Radu Oprea and other experts from the institution.

“The signing of the letter of intent follows the memorandum of understanding signed in 2022, by which Raytheon Missiles&Defence and Electromecanica S.A. discussions have begun for the manufacture of SkyCeptor interceptor missiles in Romania and it is a procedural step for the start of collaboration and the establishment of the cooperation framework”, states the quoted source.

According to Raytheon‘s website, the SkyCeptor is an affordable kinetic interceptor for long-range ballistic and cruise missile defense, compatible with US and NATO standards. It is a missile that could be integrated into the Patriot system.

During the meeting, Minister Ştefan-Radu Oprea declared that the Romanian defense industry needs investments, technology exchanges and know-how. At the same time, the dignitary emphasized that the signing of the letter of intent is another proof of the functioning of the Strategic Partnership with the United States of America, our country being deeply interested in strengthening bilateral relations in several fields, the press release also states.
