Autoliv, the worldwide leader in automotive safety systems, will expand its R&D activities in Romania in the second half of 2017, a press release informs.

Already holding an engineering center in Timisoara, the Romanian subsidiary of the Swedish manufacturer will open a new center in Iasi.

This decision was taken after a very careful analysis of the local environment and in response to the requests from engineers and students in Iasi – following Autoliv attendance at several job shops and projects for them.

“Autoliv follows the upward trend of engineering operations consolidation in Romania and the new location in Iasi supports our long-term growth. Iasi is a bidder city with great potential for IT in general, and for automotive in particular. We are sure that we will find here well-trained professional engineers, prestigious colleges with good track record and local authorities wishing to develop the city and a environmentally friendly business,” Ionel Fierbinteanu, Country Manager Autoliv Romania stated.

The engineering center in Timisoara has about 450 engineers who develop and test software for automotive safety systems. The accelerated growth in the last two years in Timisoara will now be supported by the new center in Iasi, which will develop and test mainly software for cutting edge Active Safety products (Vision / Night Vision and ADAS-ECU), as well as Passive Safety systems (airbags and seat belts).

“We estimate that in the next three years, we will reach more than 200 software engineers in Iasi,” Fierbinteanu added. According to Autoliv Romania officials, the company has currently 10,500 employees and estimate that will finish the year with about 11,000 people.

The Swedish company holds factories on the local market in Brasov, Lugoj, Sfantul Gheorghe and Resita, and engineering and development centers in Brasov and Timisoara.
