Tarom postpones selling two A310 in its fleet, huge reshuffles expected

Romania’s flag carrier Tarom postpones the sale of the two A310 aircraft in its fleet, bought in 1992 by the Petre Roman Government and out of use today, following company’s decision last year.

Tarom’s executive management expects to receive the notice from the ministry’s specialized departments for valuing company’s assets, during which postponed the decision to initiate the aircraft sale procedure, the decision published in the Official Gazette reads.

Romanian carrier finished last year in red as the two airplanes in the fleet were withdrawn and there were people who sabotaged the company both internally and externally, Tarom General Manager Eugen Davidoiu recently said, before resigning.

Air carrier leases this year two new Boeing 737-800 NG aircraft which should replace the two Airbus A310.

The two scrapped Airbus A310 could not even be used as freight jets, because the landing gears have a high degree of wear and their repair costs would be very high, ex- transport minister Sorin Buse stated at end-2016. According to the public statements of former Tarom GM Gabriel Stoe, the two A310 were valued at USD 5.1 million and USD 5.3 million respectively.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Transport, Razvan Cuc said that Tarom has too many employees, compared to how few aircraft it has, suggesting that there could be important layoffs in the coming period, digi24.ro informs.

Tarom fleet means 23 aircraft and nearly 2,000 employees. After the first half of the year, Romania’s flag carrier recorded a loss of more than RON 104 million.
