The Minister of Transport, Sorin Grindeanu, said on Monday that TAROM will receive an aid of over 80 million euros from the European Commission,

“Here we are talking about that plan accepted by the European Commission for the restructuring of TAROM. Just the other day I had a discussion with Mr. Bogdan Chiriţoiu from the Competition Council, there were colleagues of mine at the Commission last week, all the signals are positive that we will receive this aid from the European Commission for TAROM, substantial aid. Based on this help, we will move forward with the receipt of this money. I think there are 80 or so million euros that we will receive. I hope we go along the assumed line, that of transforming this company into an economically sound company. The first step is to receive help from the Commission, which, this time, we have no reason not to receive, we meet all the criteria”, stated minister Grindeanu.
TAROM employees asked for donations to save the airline
The United Tarom Trade Union (SUT) requests the support of donation activities and public subscription of shares to save the national air operator, which in 2023 still has 12 aircraft and only 19 foreign flights, compared to 27 flights and many more aircraft in the year 1967.
“On September 18, 2023, the TAROM company should have celebrated its 69th anniversary. Unfortunately, for 33 years, almost half of this company’s life has been under the sign of the so-called restructurings made by the Romanian governments, under all the colors political, none successful. Entering the 70th year of life is overshadowed by the failures of political leadership, institutional incompetence and the failed state. We note with sadness that the company’s almost 70-year history is no longer in the hands of of ours, of the employees, but of the politicians of the failed state. If for decades the TAROM brand earned through its people, the professional employees of TAROM, a well-deserved place in history proudly representing Romania, we have reached a situation where we will most likely disappear into the nothingness of history like many other Romanian state companies closed by the incompetence of the political leadership”, the representatives of the United Tarom Trade Union, said in a press release.
