The Finns from Patria want to produce Patria AMV in Romania
The Finnish Group Patria, a supplier with extensive experience in technological solutions for defense, security and aviation as well as in maintenance services, has recently submitted to the Romanian authorities the project detailing the concept of production and financing of the 8×8 armored vehicle. The announcement comes after a series of consultations conducted by Patria’s representatives with the Romanian authorities and Romanian defense industry players, meant to kick off a partnership for the local production of the Patria AMV armored vehicle, reads a press release.
According to the project, the 8X8 armored vehicle would be produced in Romania, at the best price-quality ratio and would involve the Romanian defense industry from the very early stages of the production. The core product and its derivatives are the most evolved vehicles from a technical point of view today, fully meeting the NATO interoperability and NATO standards, as well as the technical requirements of the Romanian Army.
“Patria AMV vehicles have superior mobility in extreme conditions in theaters of operations and have acquired the status of leader of the modern vehicle class they belong to,” stated Juha Simola, Senior Vice President.
“We are confident that the Romanian authorities will assess all proposals seriously and will make a decision ensuring the highest degree of protection of the Romanian land forces participating in the international missions and representing the best option for the Romanian defense industry,” added Markku Koivisto, Vice President from Patria Land Systems.
Patria offers full industrial participation and production in Romania, with success stories demonstrated by serial production in other EU countries and beyond.
Patria’s local participation will make a significant contribution to revitalizing Romania’s defense industry, taking into account that it will directly generate more than 250 jobs and indirectly hundreds of jobs due to related services. At the same time, the revitalization of the national defense industry through re-technology and training will ensure the autonomy and security of the supply chain in case of unforeseen events.
Patria is owned by the State of Finland (50.1%) and Norwegian Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace AS (49.9%). Versatile duties employ today some 2,800 skilled professionals.
