The Romanian auto market up in 2024, yet new full electric cars down by 32%
Last year, both the new car market and the imported SH car market grew compared to 2023, ACAROM data shows. The hybrid segment grew strongly, but full-electric cars have less than 7% of the market and recorded a sharp decline in new cars, ACAROM data shows.
Overall, in 2024, new car registrations reached 151,105 units, an increase of 4% compared to 2023, respectively 144,611 units.
Of these, 9,765 new registered cars have full electric propulsion (-32% compared to 2023) and 58,470 units have hybrid propulsion (+35% compared to 2023). Electric cars decreased mainly because the Rabla Plus subsidy was reduced, but also because there are not too many affordable models on sale.
In total, in 2024, the registrations of used cars registered for the first time in Romania reached 328,834 units, up 4% compared to 2023, respectively 316,332 units.
