Due to Tarom’s technical problems and its aircrafts’ delays of up to 2-3 hours, Ministry of Transport sent its control body to analyse this issue, Transport Minister Dan Costescu, who spoke about the company’s restructuring process announced on Tuesday in the Senate.
“Tarom’s fleet is outdated. We have 23 aircraft that are heterogeneous. There are three different brands of aircrafts, each with 2-3 types of aircraft. This creates huge difficulties for maintenance and operation. There is no day in which this company did not record delays,” Costescu noted.
He asked the company’s management a short-term plan of measures to redress the situation.
Also, a Ministry of Transport official added that a consultancy procurement procedure has been initiated for restructuring.
According to him, the strategy proposed by the consultant will be approved by the shareholders by mid-year and its implementation is scheduled for H2 of 2016.
The first meeting of Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos’ visit to Brussels with First Vice President of the European Commission Frans Timmermans was postponed on Monday for about two hours, because the Tarom aircraft that the Romanian PM was travelling in was delayed.
