Tuborg Romania’s beer cans to have Alu-Foil protection, after an investment of over EUR 2 M

Tuborg Romania, part of United Romanian Breweries Bereprod (URBB), invested over EUR 2 million in the development and modernization of the production line of the factory in Pantelimon, Ilfov County, by applying an Alu-Foil without adhesive on the beer cans in its portfolio, Shachar Shaine, URBB president said during a press conference.

It’s about Carlsberg, Tuborg, Tuborg Non-Alcoholic, Holsten, SKOL and Unpasteurized SKOL produced in Romania and will be available soon to consumers.

This innovation was based on a study carried out for URBB, which analyzed 99 beer cans on several brands on the Romanian market. According to the study, almost 12 percent of the cans had a high bacteriological risk.

“It’s the most expensive solution as an investment that can change the standards on the Romanian beverage market. It is 100 percent recyclable and does not affect the environment. We call it <disturbing innovation>,” Shachar Shaine stated.

According to the URBB official, the plant in Pantelimon produces 100 million beer cans per year and all will be covered with aluminum foil, using the technology developed by Italian company EcoCap’s, by heat sealing the foil over the can cap.

“We will not increase the prices. (…) We want to streamline the projects without making any changes in quality and price, “ Shaine pointed out.

Recently, URBB extended extends its portfolio with 5 new special beers: Grimbergen Ambreé, Kronenbourg 1664 Blanc, Angelo Poretti 4 Luppoli Original, Angelo Poretti 5 Luppoli Bock Chiara and Angelo Poretti 6 Luppoli Bock Rossa.

Romania’s beer market volume in 2016 remained at the same level reached in the previous year, 15.8 million hectoliters, as well as the consumption per capita, which stood at 80 liters. Thus, Romania ranks 7th in terms of consumption among European countries, Brewers of Romania Association data show.
