Turkish e-commerce platform Trendyol enters Romania

The e-commerce giant Trendyol is expanding with its own platform in several countries this year, including Romania. Those interested in the fashion products of the platform, whose majority shareholder is the Chinese group Alibaba, can already access the platform in Romanian and order the desired products.

“In the first quarter of 2024, we will enter the Eastern European market. We will start with Romania, Greece, Hungary and the Czech Republic”, said Erdem Inan, CEO of Trendyol Group, at the end of last year, as quoted by Dailysabah.com.He added that they aim to reach 2 million active customers and over 4 million orders in Eastern Europe by the end of 2024. 

Romanian consumers can already order from the platform, which also has a version in Romanian, which can be accessed by entering trendyol.com and selecting Romania at the top, as the delivery country, and the Romanian language. Trendyol was present in Romania through several local marketplaces, but the announced expansion refers to the launch of its own platform and mobile applications in our country.

The e-commerce giant Alibaba owned 86.5% of Trendyol at the end of last year. According to investopedia.com, the Chinese announced in 2023 that they are planning a new investment of 2 billion dollars in the Turkish e-commerce platform. By the time of the above announcement, the giant Alibaba had already invested more than 1.4 billion dollars in the Turkish company. Other investors in Trendyol are SoftBank Group, General Atlantic or Qatar Investment Authority
