Turnover in retail trade up by 6.4pc in January

Turnover in retail trade grew by 6.4% in January 2017 as compared to the same period in 2016. but decreased by 24.9% compared to December 2016, according to the National Statistics Institute (INS).

As compared to December 2016, the turnover in retail trade (except for trade of motor vehicles and motorcycles), as gross series, decreased overall in January by 24.9%, due to lower sales of non-food products ( -32.8%), sales of food, beverages and tobacco (-21.4%) and retail trade of automotive fuel in specialized stores (-12.4%).

In that period, the sales of food products decreased by 6.2%.
