Timisoara is the fourth city in Romania where US-based multinational online transportation network company Uber will be used as of today, a press release informs on Wednesday.

Available now in four cities and over 140,000 users, Romania is the second country as strategic importance for Uber in Central and Eastern Europe after Poland, where the service has over 300,000 users and is present in nine cities.

“The cities are still developing, but the mobility options remain the same. Using Uber, people have another option to get safely home, at work or simply to discover the city, if they are visiting. Timisoara will host hundreds of thousands of tourists in the coming years – providing a modern and digital service,” Nicoleta Schroeder, General Manager Uber Romania shows.

In Timisoara, the tariff per kilometer is RON 1.75 and RON 0.3 per minute; the basic price is RON 1.75, while the minimum tariff is RON 7.

All those who have not yet tried Uber, will benefit from the first race for free, limited to RON 30, if they make an account on Uber.com/App, entering the TIMISOARA code into the app.

The ridesharing service entered the local market in February 2015 and in August this year launched the service in Cluj-Napoca, followed then by Brasov. At one year of Uber in Romania, the controversial smartphone app marked 110,000 users, according to Alexandra Corolea, Uber’s Communications Associate for the Balkans region.
