Uzina Mecanica Bucuresti and US-based General Dynamics, partners in manufacturing and delivering armored vehicles

Romanian Ministry of Economy and Romarm, through Uzina Mecanica Bucuresti, and the US company General Dynamics, which owns the Swiss Mowag armor manufacturer, signed a memorandum of understanding and cooperation agreement on Tuesday, PM Mihai Tudose attending the ceremony, as a press release informs.

”Through the initialed documents, the two parties undertake to collaborate, in accordance with the assumed objectives regarding the endowment of the Romanian Armed Forces, in view of the production and delivery of Piranha 5 armored vehicles to the Ministry of National Defense,” the release also reads.

Within the future company, Uzina Mecanica Bucuresti will participate with assets consisting of manufacturing lines and employees, who will follow training courses at the American company headquarters.

General Dynamics will participate in this joint venture with investments in upgrading production capabilities and integrating armored vehicle production.

“Initialling this collaboration between a state-owned company in Romania and US-based General Dynamics is an extraordinary moment for the Romanian defense industry,” said PM Tudose.

Ion Marcel Ciolacu – Deputy Prime Minister, Gheorghe Simon – Minister of Economy, Mihai Fifor – Minister of National Defense, and Hans Klemm – US Ambassador to Romania, also attended the signing ceremony.
