On Tuesday, Moldova’s national company Vestmoldtransgaz received the license to deliver natural gas through Iasi-Ungheni pipeline, the local Energy Authority announced in a press release, Mediafax informs.

This license is available for a period of 25 years.

On december, OMV Petrom has signed an agreement with the Moldovan company Energocom to start gas deliveries from January 1 through Iasi-Ungheni pipeline. The contract was signed for one year. For the beginning, the delivered quantities are limited, but gradually they will grow.

The construction of the 43 km Iasi-Ungheni gas interconnector was officially launched last year’s August with the financial support of the European Union. This is the first and only direct gas pipeline connecting Moldova and the EU. The Ungheni-Iasi pipeline will have a maximum transportation capacity of 1 billion cubic meters/annually, covering around 1/3 of the gas consumption in Moldova. For the very first time in history, Moldova will be able to get gas directly from the EU and international markets.
