“Capital” business magazine revealed its 2017 ranking of the 300 richest Romanians, with tycoon Ion Tiriac ranking first for the fourth year in a row. The businessman also managed to increase his wealth by 7.6% as against last year.
So, former tennis man Ion Tiriac boasts a fortune of EUR 1.7-1.7 bln this year, compared to EUR 1.6 bln in 2016.
Dedeman’s owners, Paval brothers rank second, with their business exceeding the threshold of EUR 1 billion this year (estimated to EUR 1.1-1.2 billion), while the net profit was up by over 25%, mounting to EUR 158 million. Last year, Dragos and Adrian Paval posted a fortune of EUR 920-250 M.
RCS-RDS owner, Zoltan Teszari ranks third, with a wealth of EUR 550-570 million, while last year the fortune was about EUR 500-520 M.
Ioan Niculae climbs down a position from third to fourth compared to last year. Niculae’s fortune is estimated to EUR 500-600 M, while last year it was EUR 700 M.
Iulian Dascalu, owner of Iulius group rejoining several shopping centers in the country, comes fifth in the Capital ranking, with his fortune also registering an advance as against last year. His wealth is about EUR 480-500 M, while last year it was assessed to EUR 450-460 M.
George Becali ranks sixth with EUR 400-500 M, also up compared to 2016 when he ranked only ninth with a fortune of EUR 280-300 M.
Gruiua Stoica and Vasile Didila brothers who have businesses in the railway field also have slightly increased their fortune up to EUR 400-420 M, while last year they ranked sixth with EUR 380 M.
Frank Timis also climbed the ranking with a fortune of EUR 380-400 M, as in the previous edition he had a wealth of EUR 280 M and ranked 11th.
Radu Dimofte, known as a real estate mogul, also saw his fortune up this year, EUR 370-400 M. In 2016, he ranked tenth with a fortune of EUR 280-300 M.
Marius and Emil Cristescu brothers, local entrepreneurs from Timisoara operating in the industry, real estate and hospitality fields, rank 10th, with a fortune of ERU 340-350 M, however down as against last year, when they ranked seventh with a fortune of EUR 360 M.
The ranking also drafted the profile of the Romanian millionaire present in the Top 300 richest persons. So, he is a man, around 56, with an average fortune of almost EUR 77 M, having businesses in Bucharest.
As a matter of fact, the Romanian Capital and the Ilfov surrounding area boasted most of the millionaires. There are 113 millionaires based in Bucharest-Ilfov region, with their fortune totaling up EUR 10.76 billion, which means 46.7% of the wealth of the 300 richest Romanians.
The sectors where the entrepreneurs’ businesses have posted a significant evolution this year were commerce, industry, transports and agriculture.
