Wizz Air, the largest low-cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe, launches its Pilot Academy in Romania. According to a press release, the program offers young adults with no or little flying experience the unique opportunity to obtain a Commercial Pilot’s License and the perspective of working as a pilot at Wizz Air.
Within the framework of the program, contracted pilot schools will provide high-quality training, following Wizz Air’s standards, while WIZZ will support cadets enrolled in the program, if they prove to meet certain terms and conditions, by pre-financing a significant part of their tuition fees in order to lower the barriers to start their career as pilots. From the start, the objective of the Wizz Air Pilot Academy is to offer all successful Wizz Air Pilot Academy graduates employment as First Officer within Wizz Air.
The program is currently working with 2 flight schools: Tréner Kft in Nyiregyháza, Hungary, and Egnatia Aviation in Kavala, Greece. The upcoming courses are planned to start in July and September with Egnatia Aviation Ltd. and in November with Tréner Kft.
The integrated training program consists of 750 hours of ground, 60 hours of simulator and 145 hours of flight training over the course of 16 to 21 months at one of Wizz Air’s experienced flight school partners. During these months of Ab Initio Training, cadets start to gain the necessary knowledge and develop the skills needed to be able to launch their airline pilot career at Wizz Air and support the significant expansion of the airline.
Cadets who successfully graduate from the Pilot Academy program can begin their employment at Wizz Air as Pilot Trainees. After completing the Airline Transition Program, Type Rating Course, Line Training and other internal trainings at WIZZ, they can then start flying as First Officers across the WIZZ network, and potentially progress in their career.
Wizz Air offers their pilots the chance for fast and constant career development. After joining the airline as First Officers, cadets can become Senior First Officers within two years and after a further two years they can apply for the upgrade program to become one of the Commanders of the Airbus A320/A321s.
WIZZ also offers the opportunity for candidates to meet the team of Wizz Air Pilot Academy in person at one of the program’s Open Days set during March-April period.
