President Iohannis welcomed China’s security official, the special envoy of China’s President, Guo Shengkun, to Cotroceni Palace on Friday. Previously in the morning the Chinese official had attended a dinner offered at Vila Lac 2, an event also attended by PM Viorica Dancila and PSD chairman Liviu Dragnea.
The visit took place amid the 70th anniversary of the Romanian-Chinese diplomatic relations, with President Iohannis delivering the message that the bilateral cooperation must be capitalized.
The Romanian head of state told the Chinese envoy that he encourages the enhancement of the bilateral partnership, which can be supported by various opportunities provided by multilateral cooperation platforms, through the European Union.
“Romania’s President has pointed out that the EU Council Presidency, to be taken over by Romania in the first semester next year will represent a good opportunity to contribute to enhancing the EU-China relations,” reads a press release issued by the Presidential Administration.
