The three regional hospitals may be financed by European funds during the current programme, European Commissioner for Regional Development Corina Cretu says in a reply to MEP Marian-Jean Marinescu.
“Now we are waiting for the Romanian Government to file the projects,” Cretu added/
The commissioner confirms that local authorities may become beneficiaries of European money for building regional hospitals, instead of the Health Ministry, on condition that the Government requests this to the European Commission.
“My recommendation is that all local authorities start a technical dialogue with the Health Ministry to elaborate the local development plans in the field of health,” Corina Cretu said.
She stressed that if the applications to fund the 3 regional hospitals are received by DG Regio and by the European Investment Bank, “we will do everything possible to complete them successfully.”
Cretu added that the Government is to make the decisions in order to avoid further delays which would undermine the possibility to successfully launch these projects to take advantage of the European Union funds.
