Constitutional Court confirms: referendum to redefine family is not valid

Constitutional Court has confirmed on Thursday that the referendum for family, to redefine marriage that took place two weeks ago cannot be valid. The referendum has not met the necessary 30% turnout threshold.

On Wednesday the constitutional judges had rejected all appeals file against the way the referendum had been organized.

After the ballot on October 6-7, the figures revealed that 21.10% of the voters in Romania had come to the polls, among whom 91.56% voted in favor of the Constitution’s amendment to redefine family and 6.47% against the revision.
