Criminal complaint filed against President Ioahnnis for not sacking anti-corruption head Kovesi

A former independent candidate running for the Bucharest District 5 city hall, Catalin Stochita, though close to the Social Democrat entourage, has filed a criminal complaint against President Klaus Iohannis at the Prosecutor’s Office upon the High Court of Cassation and Justice on Tuesday on the ground that the head of state has postponed to take a decision in dismissing the DNA chief prosecutor Laura Codruta Kovesi.

Stochita is accusing the Romanian President that he has not complied with the court rulings, of abuse of office and usurpation of power.

Stochita has also filed requests to the Chamber of Deputies and Senate speakers’ offices, asking Liviu Dragnea and Calin Popescu Tariceanu to analyse the „possibility of starting parliamentary procedures to suspend Klaus Iohannis from the position of Romania’s President”.

I have to mention that together with a numerous group of citizens, we are ready to start a signature raising campaign to suspend Iohannis Klaus Werner from office and we have also requested a written stance on the number of signatures needed to initiate the parliamentary procedures in this regard,” Stochita said.

He accused in his complaint that the president „is using various unorthodox pressure methods” to force constitutional judge Petre Lazaroiu to resign from the Constitutional Court.

The former candidate for the district 5 mayor seat also claimed that the head of state is trying „to obtain financial, political and image benefits” from his denial to recall Kovesi.
