Romania has new consuls in Strasbourg, Edinburgh, Turin and Cernauti, according to the resolutions published in the Official Gazette on Thursday. Among the new consuls, there is also Ioana Gheorghias, the daughter of Mugurel Gheorghias, one of the shareholders at TelDrum and close friend of Social Democrat leader Liviu Dragnea (they have been friends since faculty).
Ioana Gheorghias has been appointed general consul in Turin, replacing Tiberiu Dinu. She joined the Diplomatic Coors of the Foreign Affairs Ministry in 2014. Her career started in 2011, when she worked at Cotroceni Presidential Palace, during Traian Basescu’s mandate.
Mugurel Gheorghias is shareholder at TelDrum, a company that has been assigned to Liviu Dragnea. TelDrum has filed for insolvency in January this year, after in December last year, the company had been indicted by the DNA in the file regarding the European funds embezzlement, where the prejudice amounts to over EUR 1 million.
The company allegedly controlled by the ruling Social Democratic Party chairman Liviu Dragnea, was sent to court for using or presenting false, inaccurate or incomplete documents and statements in bad faith, if the deed results in obtaining undue European funds, with extremely serious consequences.
Sabin Pop is recalled from the position as general consul in Strasbourg, France and is replaced by Sorin Adrian Parvulescu, who is the step son of FM Teodor Melescanu, the son of Melescanu’s current wife, from a previous marriage.
At the same time, the new general consul of Romania in Edinburgh is Anton Emmanuel Barbu, the son of Daniel Barbu (ALDE), former minister of Culture in Ponta Government. Anton Barbu was director of an Italian foundation, AVSI, carrying out humanitarian activities in Syria.
Eleonora Moldova is recalled from the office of general consul in Cernauti, Ukraine and she is replaced by Irina Loredana Stănculescu.
