Dragnea: Iohannis is capable to to anything to topple down the Government, “even by violence”

The chairman of the ruling Social Democrat Party (PSD), Liviu Dragnea, has stated on Thursday evening that President Klaus Iohannis is capable “to do anything this autumn against the Government, the ruling coalition, to topple down the Government, even by violence”, so that the pensions law would not be enforced.

“I am convinced Iohannis might block the new pensions law. He knows something more, that we do what we present and Romanians are feeling that. My opinion is he is capable of anything against this Government, this coalition, to do something this autumn, even to topple down the Government, to stop the pensions law coming into force,” Dragnea told Romania TV.

He reminded the announcement made by the PNL chairman, Ludovic Orban, who said that if Liberals came to power they would block the enforcement of the salary law, “so that Romanians should not have higher incomes, so that Romania’s resources should not be used for Romanians”.

He also slammed the head of state for sending back the Offshore law in Parliament. “Why? Were his friends unhappy? As you block any good law, you challenge it to CCR, you and your vassal parties, you turn it back to the Parliament, to put pressure on CCR not to adopt the laws, it is clear Iohannis wants another presidential mandate, a mandate of nothing, just like the first one,” the PSD leader added.

When the PSD candidate for Presidency will be announced?
Dragnea stated that the announcement on a potential single candidate for Presidency of the PSD-ALDE coalition will be “probably made in 2019”.

His remarks come after the Social Democrat Party’s deputy secretary general, Codrin Stefanescu had announced on Wednesday that PSD and ALDE will announced on October 15 this year if they have separate candidates for the presidential elections of 2019 or if the two parties will have a common candidate.
