The Romanian Foreign Ministry had a first reaction on the latest violence outburst in Gaza that left at least 58 Palestinians dead and thousands injured over tensions that escalated following opening of US Embassy in Jerusalem.
“Concerned over the loss of human lives in #Gaza
#Gaza. We expect all to act with utmost restraint. We appeal to all to refrain from violence,” reads a Romanian MFA tweet on Tuesday afternoon.
On Monday, 58 people were killed when Israeli troops opened fire during Palestinian protests. The violence came as the US inaugurated its first embassy in Jerusalem, a controversial move that broke with decades of US policy and incensed Palestinians, as BBC reported.
Most countries say the status of Jerusalem – a sacred city to Jews, Muslims and Christians – should be determined in a final peace settlement and that moving their embassies now would prejudge any such deal.
