If the flu death toll stood at 14 on Friday, it climbed to 20 by Sunday. The last victim is a 68-year-old man who died at the County Hospital in Galati on Saturday. Like the other previous victims, the man had not been vaccinated against influenza and was suffering of other serious respiratory diseases.
Sources from the hospital revealed the man had been infected with the flu AH3 type of virus. It is the third person who dies of flu in Galati.
At this point, there are some areas in Romania where the flu virus is more intense: Bucharest, Constanta and western country. Yet, all the cities have reported a growing number of flu cases and virus infections.
Health minister Sorina Pintea told Digi24 that we are on the verge of an outbreak, but we don’t have one yet. Besides the anti-flu vaccine, the population has been recommended how to protect itself from the virus: to avoid crowded spaces, parents should keep the children at home if they are sick, while schools must check the situation of the pupils have symptoms of a virus infections or not. At the same, hospitals must restrict visits.
