Romania’s youth national team has made a big step towards qualifying to the European Under-21 football Championship in 2019, after defeating Bosnia-Herzegovina 2-0 (1-0) on Tuesday night, at Ovidiu, Constanta County, in a match counting for Group 8 qualifying round.
For Romania have scored by Robert Petre (16th min.) and Ianis Hagi (70th min.), a remarkable ‘double’, victories with Portugal (2-1) and Bosnia (2-0), the main opponents, the first matches having Mirel Rădoi as coach.
The match was attended by national team coach, Cosmin Contra, the President of the Romanian Football Federation, Răzvan Burleanu, and by Gheorghe Hagi.
Without taking into account the results of the matches Switzerland vs. Liechtenstein and Wales vs. Portugal, on the first place in the standings is Bosnia, with 18 points (9 matches), followed by Romania – 18 p (8 matches), Portugal – 13 p (7 matches), Wales – 10 p (7 matches), Switzerland – 7 p (8 matches), Liechtenstein – 0 p (7 matches). Romania has the advantage of direct matches against Bosnia (3-1 away and 2-0 at home).
Only the first positioned team qualifies to the EC. The best positioned four teams of the nine groups, on the second position, will play a play-off to determine the last two teams to play at the EURO.
Romania will play the last two matches in the group, against Wales on October 12, and against Liechtenstein on October 16.
