Ford has confirmed the production of a second model at the Craiova plant, to join the manufacturing of Ford EcoSport and the 1.0 EcoBoost engine, the company has informed on Tuesday.
The company also confirms an investment of EUR 200 million and 1,500 new jobs in order to manufacture the new vehicle, capital.ro reports.
The new model and the start of production will be confirmed before its launching.
Steven Armstrong, President and CEO Ford Europe, Middle East and Africa says the new investment confirms the development of the range of interesting models produced in Europe and underlines the transformation of the manufacturing centre in Craiova. The Ford official added that the second vehicle coming into production is proof of Craiova plant’s operational flexibility and mirrors the strong partnerships with local suppliers and the community members.
Ford’s overall investments in Romania, including the EUR 200 million announced on Tuesday, amount to almost EUR 1.5 billion since 2008. Furthermore, the assembly plant has recently been upgraded with 550 robots, in order to increase the efficiency and quality in the sections for dyeing, general assembly and bodywork.
In order to support the production of the new vehicle, Ford Romania will employ about 1,500 basic and qualified operators. The plant’s labour force is of more than 4,400 employees and will be thus supplemented in order to reach about 5,900 employees.
