A fresh investigation will be reopened by the Prosecutor’s Office, following the decision by the High Court for Cassation and Justice (ICCJ – Supreme Court, our note), regarding former Environment Minister Rovana Plumb, charged with abuse of office.
The complaint was filed by former Director of Romsilva, Ion Dumitru. He claims that, in 2013, Plumb allegedly ordered his dismissal, following the ICCJ ruling to sentence him to three years suspended jail sentence, for abuse of office. He was accused of having bought a forestry equipment for which Romsilva paid USD 296,000, although it was worth only USD 6,000.
Consequently, the Bucharest Court cancelled the sentence, based on a decision by the Constitutional Court which reads that abuse of office is considered crime only if the defendant has violated a law.
The Prosecutor General’s Office has closed the file. Dumitru challenged the decision to the Supreme Court, which has decided on Wednesday to reopen the investigation.
