78,181 enterprise groups were identified in Romania in 2016, out of which 5,311 all-resident enterprise groups and 72,870 multinational enterprise groups (271 domestically controlled and 72,599 foreign-controlled, respectively), National Institute of Statistics (INS) shows.
Almost 7 percent of the total enterprise groups identified in Romania were all-resident, over 90 percent of them being made up by two or three enterprises.
Most of the enterprise groups in Romania operate in trade, construction, manufacturing or professional, scientific and technical activities.
According to the share of the number of employees, most of the enterprise subgroups in Romania are controlled from Germany, France and Italy.
In 2016, out of the total foreign multinational enterprises identified in Romania, 13,867 are groups controlled by foreign legal persons and 58,732 are groups controlled by foreign natural persons. The results indicate that, according to the share of the number of employees, the first place is held by the enterprise subgroups controlled by legal or natural persons from Germany (17.1 percent), the second place is held by those controlled from France (12.7 percent) and the third place by those controlled from Italy (10 percent).
According to the share of the number of employees in total foreign-controlled multinational enterprise groups, the enterprise subgroups controlled from Germany predominantly operate in Manufacturing (9.5 percent), in Wholesale and retail; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (2.9 percent) and in Professional, scientific and technical activities (2.3 percent)
Regarding the enterprise subgroups controlled from France, 6.2 percent are found in Manufacturing and 2.6 percent in Wholesale and retail; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles.
The enterprise subgroups controlled from Italy dominate in Manufacturing (6.4 percent).
