Group of Romanians blocked in London airport after Ryanair cancelled flight because of storms

A group of 25 Romanian children is blocked for more than one day (since Friday at around 13:00h) at the Stansted Airport in England. They were on a studying trip to Cambridge, and should have returned home, but Ryanair has cancelled the flight.

The children slept in the airport and the airline has not offered them any help, no vouchers, no food, Digi 24 TV private broadcaster reports.

The accompanying teacher has tried, unsuccessfully so far, to find out why the race has been cancelled and especially when and how the children will arrive home.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) informs that Ryanair cancelled the flight due to the strong storms in the UK, while other Romanians who had tickets for WizzAir were relocated to other flights to Romania, hotnews.ro reports.

“The Embassy of Romania in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland closely follows the events related to the cancellation of flights by Ryanair and Wizz Air on July 27, 2018, on the routes London to Budapest and London to Arad respectively. The diplomatic mission has taken emergency steps to identify the solutions and to ensure that the Romanian citizens’ rights are respected. The representatives of the Romanian Embassy in London also have taken measures so that the Romanian citizens received water and vouchers for food,” a press release from MAE informs.

According to the Foreign Ministry, following the diplomatic missions’ approach, the Wizz Air passengers at Luton Airport have been relocated to other flights to Romania.

“Regarding the situation of the group of Romanian citizens at Stansted airport, we mention that they were accommodated by the Cambridge University, an institution where the Romanian citizens group participated in an educational programme. The Romanian citizens will continue the journey to Romania on Sunday, with a coach made available by the university. Two Romanian diplomats from the embassy maintain permanent contact with both the airlines and the Romanian citizens on the two airports “, the press release reads.
