A survey conducted on more than 15,000 persons reveals that 4 out of 10 drivers say they fail to see a pedestrian in due time, because they were not paying attention to the traffic. One driver out of two send messages while in traffic and 6 out of 10 talk on the phone without hands free.
Furthermore, 4 out of 10 drivers drink coffee, occasionally, 5 out of 10 eat while in traffic, some of them every day, the survey reads.
5% send messages and 7% speak without hands-free every time they drive the car.
Almost 2 out of 10 Romanians say they access social media accounts while driving. 3% have sent live images on Facebook while driving – a low percentage; however lots of accidents were generated lately by this behavior.
2 out of 10 drivers put in the GPS destination while in traffic and 9 out of 10 have never used the ‘do not disturb’ function on the phone for driving.
5 out of 10 drivers get nervous at the wheel and 2 out of 10 do it every day.
The pedestrians get distracted by the mobile phone or by music, 5 out of 10 pay attention to the phone while on the street and 3 out of 10 listen to the music using headphones.
The survey ‘Be up at the wheel’ was conducted online, during July 20-September 17, 2018 on 15,150 respondents, of which 13,102 drivers (86%). Some 73% drive on daily basis and 20% several times a week. 72% were men. In terms of age, most of them were 18-25 years old (58.63%), followed by those 26-34 years old (17.7%) and 35-55 years old (16.64%).
