A group of entrepreneurs from Maramures, northern Romania, has launched the project of the cheapest electric car “Made in Romania”. GTC vehicles are to be assembled in Baia Mare, the capital city of the county and are to be sold for a price starting from EUR 13,700. The new cars are expected to provide an one-day autonomy in the city traffic.
The company’s manager, Gheorghe Muresan, says he was inspired by the American businessman Elon Musk and revealed his company also plans to make cars with PVC plastic body in the future.
The entrepreneur explained they are in the stage of implementing the project which mounts to EUR 1.5 million, consisting in 74% European funds and the rest provided by their own money.
The project involves an assembly line in Baia Mare and a testing line, where over 20 employees will be hired. The assembly line is expected to be operational in February next year and will have a capacity of 10 cars per shift and 4,000 vehicles per year, in the first stage.
Now, the delivery is made in three months, but the car will be ready for its buyer in two-three weeks in the future. The design concept of the car has been signed by an Italian designer.
