In the financial year 2018 (September 2017 –August 31, 2018), IKEA Romania has reached sales of RON 609,348,334, no VAT included, 10.6 per cent more compared to the previous financial year. Over 3.2 million people have visited the store, bought over 18.6 million products, while almost 18 million visited the website.
“We are very happy to see that IKEA Romania continues to be one of the fastest growing markets in Europe thanks to our dedicated Romanian team that now numbers almost 1100 coworkers. As we are getting closer to the opening of the IKEA Pallady store, we invested in accessibility of our range for the many people in Romania by recently opening the first two Collection Points in Timisoara and Brasov, with three additional cities being under development,” said Stefan Vanoverbeke, Country Retail Manager IKEA South East Europe.
Out of the total of 18.6 million IKEA products reaching the Romanians’ homes, 62.4% have been furniture and 37.6%- accessories. The best selling family bedroom furniture has been HEMNES, with 29,452 pieces, while the NATTJASMIN bed sheets have been the most popular among the accessories items, with 68,871 sold pieces. Most customers preferred white products.
As for the IKEA food, the best selling dishes have been the Swedish meatballs with over 6 million, while those three million sold hot-dogs would cover the distance from Bucharest to Constanta and back, 474 km.
IKEA has also continued to invest in people and created new jobs in Romania. In the 2018 financial year, IKEA store in Bucharest had 1,092 employees, which is a 57.1% rise compared to the previous financial year.
