Inflation rate up to 4.7pc in February, the highest level in the past 5 years

The inflation has climbed to 4.7% in February 2018 against February 2017 and by 0.3% against January, the National Statistics Institute (INS) informs on Tuesday.

The average rate of consumer prices in the past 12 months (March 2017-February 2018) against the previous 12 months (March 2016-February 2017), calculated as CPI, is 2.1%, calculated as HIPC the average rate is 1.6%.

The price increases were of 3.74% for foodstuff, of 6.27% for non-food goods and of 2.92% for services.

Highest increases: fruits and canned fruits – 7.39%, natural gas – 5.69%, vegetables and canned vegetables – 4.43%, electricity – 2.30% and thermal energy – 2.14%.
