Interior minister Carmen Dan has announced on Sunday that 21 criminal cases have been opened following violence actions during the Diaspora meeting on August 10, with three files having unidentified authors. The minister added that an internal investigation has been opened within the ministry, which revealed five cases of abuses of the gendarmes against people who had committed no violence. At the same time, the minister pointed out that information received from the intelligence services before August 10 had not pointed to a crisis situation.
Minister Dan has also presented a top of the “manipulating reports” presented after the protest. Among them, there is the one with the injured gendarme woman being discharged from hospital and another one that the riot police would have beaten a woman in the wheelchair.
The official said the woman had just thrown herself off the wheel chair and that public information discloses that she is the goddaughter of one of the leaders of the #rezist movement, Sandi Matei.
As for the pictures broadcast from the hospital where the young gendarme woman injured during the rally had been admitted, which showed the woman leaving the hospital safe and sound, the minister said the photos were actually featuring a colleague of the gendarme, and not her.
The report on the events from August 10 that I have asked to all ministry’s structures has been presented to me today. I want to make it clear, this report has no role to establish any guilt. I present all apologies to all those who suffered, either civilians or gendarmes. I have no hesitation to present this report to the defence committees in Parliament or to the Supreme Defence Council,” Carmen Dan stated.
She reported that 21 criminal cases have been opened so far and that the internal investigation within the ministry pointed to five cases of abuses against innocent people.
She announced all information will be sent to the Prosecutor’s Office.
Dan added that the information coming from the intelligence services before August 10 had a general character and did not reveal any crisis situation that could threaten the political and social situation.
The minister informed that gendarme troops had been deployed from Craiova, Bacau, Constanta and Ploiesti for the Diaspora rally and that major Laurentiu Cazan had been led the mission.
USR chairman asks for the Interior minister’s resignation: The pseudo report is a cover-up
USR chairman Dan Barna has asked the Interior minister’s resignation, for trying to “cover up” the violent events of August 10 by presenting “a pseudo report”. Barna accused Carmen Dan she is “a pathetic propaganda person” of Liviu Dragnea.
“It is not possible to cast the blame for what had happened with the peaceful protesters, to accuse the victims of the repression,” he argued.
