Interior Ministry emergency meeting on African swine fever. Three new outbreaks announced

The National Committee for Emergency Situations with the Interior Ministry is, Wednesday afternoon, in a meeting dedicated to the situation resulted from the developments of African swine fever.

This year no less than 440 outbreaks of African swine fever have been confirmed for domestic pigs, of which 438 in households and 2 in breeding complexes.

The owners are compensated by the state with amounts according to the market level. Compensations are paid within 90 days at a level of RON 8-12 per kilo.

Meanwhile, three new outbreaks have been announced in Braila County, in Insula Mare a Brailei (Braila’s Great Island), where measures have been applied for monitoring, control and virus combating.

Hitherto, in Braila County some 3,000 pigs have been slaughtered.

Last week, thousands of pigs were slaughtered in the communes of Berteştii de Jos, Frecăţei and Stăncuţa, Braila County. Despite the preventive measures, the virus was found in other localities, such as Măraşu, Măgura and Băndoiu.

“People’s perception until now was good. We have more than 200,000 pigs in the county, we have a huge problem and our main concern is related to the pig farm complexes. The farms have adopted all bio-security measures, I believe there will be no problems, but we have to be on watch around the clock,” Gigu Dragan, head of the sanitary-veterinary authority in Braila, said.

In mid July, Agriculture Minister, Petre Daea, requested in Brussels financial support for the Romanian farmers affected by the African swine fever and by the radical preventive measures that had to be made.

In early July, ANSVSA announced that all pigs at the pig farm complex in Tulcea County, where the African swine fever was confirmed, i.e. 44,580 heads, will be slaughtered and the carcasses will be destroyed.
