Italian low-cost airline to operate in Romania as of June

Ernest Airlines announced the opening of new direct flights linking Bucharest to two important Italian cities: Verona and Genoa. The flights will be operational as of June 21, with a modern 180-seat Airbus A320.

“With these new routes, we begin a new and important chapter in the history of Ernest. The goal of Ernest Airlines, today the only Italian airline present in Romania, is to expand the air transport service between Italy and countries that have a great migratory flow towards Italy,” said Ernest Airlines Business Development Director, Chady El Tannir in a press conference on Monday.

Ernest Airlines started with direct connections from Italy to Albania, and then Ukraine.

The opening of flights to Romania is a fundamental step for our company to consolidate our offer dedicated to ethnic traffic. Moreover, Italy is preferred by Romanians that choose to live and to work abroad. On the other hand, Romania is becoming very important for more and more Italians that have opened their business in Romania. Entry into the market has been carefully considered with the goal of offering connections between pertinent Italian cities, in which there is a considerable presence of Romanian origins. We aim to build a solid foundation in underserved markets and make flights between Romania and Italy more accessible, not only by price, but also by the convenience of our well planned timetables,” El Tannir pointed out.

Flights between Bucharest and Verona were served from the 90s until last year. Ernest Airlines is responding to the high market demand by restoring this important piece in the Italian –Romanian network.

Bucharest – Genoa is another new connection, not previously served, where the market demand is high, not only for multitude of Romanians residing in the province of Genoa and in all the south-east of France but also thanks to the demand generated by the Ligurian tourist attractions, together with the Mediterranean Sea and the cruises leaving from Genoa every week.
