After several rumors in recent years, Sweden’s IKEA decided the site where to build a new store in Romania. The plot has an area of around 13.7 hectares and is located in Bucharest, District 3, Pallady Blvd., No. 57.
According to a press release, the value of the acquisition is confidential.
“In several large cities in Romania there is potential to open IKEA stores. At the same time, the existing store in Bucharest is currently receiving a large number of visitors, which, sometimes, might affect their perception of the experience during shopping or is too far from some residents of Bucharest who choose not to visit us for this reason.
Therefore, we decided to open our second store in Capital also, all in an area that offers greater access to the public transport network to Bucharesters in more remote areas.
Of course, we will not stop here. Finding the most suitable land in other places remains on our list of priorities,” Cornel Opri?an retail manager IKEA Romania said in a press release.
The first IKEA store, a greenfield project opened in 2007 in northern Bucharest, Baneasa area, recorded sales of RON 468.4 million (EUR 106 million) in September 1, 2013 – August 31, 2014 period, up by 6.45 percent from the previous year.
