Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the EC, has received Romanian PM Viorica Dăncilă at the Berlaymont building in Brussels on Tuesday.
EC vice-president, Frans Timmermans, and the European Commissioner for Regional Policy, Corina Creţu have also attended the meeting.
The main message delivered by the Brussels officials to the Romanian side has been that the EC continues to monitor the developments in Romania within the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism, while asking the Romanian officials to return to a normal political speech.
Jean-Claude Juncker told the Romanian prime minister that the European Commission continues to monitor the evolution in Romanian within the CVM, while insisting that it’s essential that our country is not taking steps backwards on the progress already achieved.
According to EC spokesperson, Christian Wigand, the EC President has encouraged the head of the Romanian Government to act so that our country returns to a normal speech, especially in the view of Romania’s taking over the Presidency of the EU Council on January 1, 2019.
The discussion between Jean-Claude Juncker and Viorica Dăncilă has mainly tackled the preparations our country is making to take over the EU Council Presidency, as well as the EC’s proposal on the EU multi annual budget, improvement in support of the structural funds and the economic policy.
