JusMin after meeting ruling coalition leaders: There is no amnesty bill

Justice Minister Tudorel Toader has stated on Thursday after meeting the PSD-ALDE ruling coalition leaders, Liviu Dragnea and Calin Popescu Tariceanu that it’s not his authority to decide on the opportunity or if it is constitutional to promote an emergency ordinance on amnesty and pardon, reiterating that there is no such bill at the Justice Ministry.

Asked whose task is to draft such a bill, Toader replied: “the task of the decision maker”.

The minister said he had talked to the ruling coalition leaders about the Venice Commission’s recommendations related to the justice laws, but denied telling which of these recommendations would be taken over within the amendments operated on the justice laws.

On Sunday, PSD chairman Liviu Dragnea told a private broadcaster that there is need for “amnesty” in Romania due to the abuses in the judiciary system and due to the magistrates who have criminal files.
