Local councillors from a commune in Arges County, who earn wages of about RON 10,000 (approx. EUR 2,100) per month, have asked the mayor to settle their transportation costs from one village to another for the monthly sitting.
The sitting takes place only once a month, and that’s why they pay about RON 8 (approx. EUR 1.7) for transport. The mayor says the law is misinterpreted and, anyway, the commune hall does not have the money, stirileprotv.ro informs.
The village where three of the counsellors live is 10 kilometres away from the commune’s centre. So one of them has, on behalf of all, wrote a request asking for the transport to be settled.
It would be, says the mayor, about RON 8 a month, and the counsellors ask for the settlement since 2016 until now.
The councillors say that they do not necessarily need the money, but it is about the principle – it is stipulated by the law, they say.
