Maramures photo, awarded by National Geographic

A photo showing an elderly couple in a household in Maramures has received a mention of honor at the 2014 National Geographic Photography Contest.

The man is captured while sitting on the bed, lost in the trail of thoughts, and alongside him, his wife is preparing the bread used at the Holy Communion (Eucharist). The impoverished and sad atmosphere captured in this photography is mitigated by the image of a cat sleeping on the bed next to the old man.

The photo was taken in Sarbi village in Maramures, by Roberto Fiore, according to information published on the National Geographic website.

2014 National Geographic Photography Contest’s Grand Prize winner is the photography entitled “A Node Glows in the Dark”, taken by Brian Yen in Hong Kong.

The photo shows the inside of a crowded railway carriage, in the center of the image being distinguished a young woman’s face, lit by the mobile phone screen.

National Geographic is a leader in photo area. At this year’s edition of National Geographic Photography Contest over 9,200 images from over 150 countries entered the competition, at the contest participating both professional photographers and amateurs.

The contest had three categories – people, places and nature –the jury having been constituted by National Geographic photographers and other experts in the field.
