The President of Republic of Moldova, Igor Dodon, has sent to President Klaus Iohannis, through the intermediation of the Romanian Ambassador in Chisinau, an official invitation to pay a visit to Moldova.
A post on Facebook by Igor Dodon reads: “I am fully confident that only by repeated talks the difficulties and asperities in the relations between states or institutions can be overcome.”
The Moldovan President has handed the official invitation to the Romanian Ambassador, Daniel Ionita and has told him that Romania and Moldova are “two independent and sovereign states, which have to find new opportunities for respectful cooperation and beneficial for the citizens.”
“I assured Mr. Ambassador that the Moldo-Romanian relations are and will remain fundamental for Republic of Moldova, due to our vicinity, of common historical events and cultural affinities we have always had… By this letter, I have sent to Mr. President Iohannis my invitation to pay a visit to Republic of Moldova. I believe the heads of state of Romania and Republic of Moldova need to have thorough, responsible and constructive communication… I am fully confident that by repeated talks the asperities and difficulties between states or institutions can be overcome and I believe the Romanian president is open to dialogue with Chisinau, in any period of time convenient to him,” Dodon has also written on Facebook.
The invitation is sent one year before the general elections in Republic of Moldova. Dodon has made repeated aggressive statements against Romania and has promoted Moldova’s closer relations with the Russian Federation, hotnews.ro informs.
