Norwegian Vard to build hulls of three coast guard vessels in Tulcea

The shipyard in Tulcea, eastern Romania, will build the hulls for three coast guard vessels that Vard, one of the world leaders in specialized shipbuilding, a Ficantieri subsidiary, will produce for Norway’s defence procurement agency NDMA.

The overall value of the contract with NDMA for building the three vessels exceeds 5 billion Norwegian crowns (EUR 528 million),  according to a statement by Vard.
Vard operates nine strategically located shipbuilding facilities, including five in Norway and two in Romania, in Braila and Tulcea.
Besides this order, the two shipyards in Romania will also build the hull of a new luxury expedition vessel for German company, Hapag-Lloyd Cruise, a contract just concluded several days ago.It will the the third vessel of this type built for the same company.

Fincantieri has been nominated as qualified candidate in the public tender for the corvettes that will equip the Romanian Naval Forces.

In April this year, Vard was selected by Prysmian Group for the design and construction of one cable laying vessel. The contract value, including owner supplied special equipment, amounts to approximately EUR 170 million, and the hull is going to be also build at Tulcea shipyard.

Also in April this year it was announced that Vard had signed a new contract for the design and construction of one stern trawler for Havfisk, with hull to be also built at Vard Braila in Romania.
